Le film de 1931 laisse entendre qu'avant de donner vie à sa créature, Victor a maintenu un coeur en vie pendant deux ans. Le coeur est un symbole puissant. Un an après le mort de Mary Shelley (1851), les Shelley ouvrent son bureau. Ils trouvent un cahier de notes qu’elle partageait avec Percy Shelley, et une copie de son poème Adonaïs dont une page enveloppait un tissu en soie contenant un peu des cendres et des restes du cœur de son mari Percy mort noyé 30 ans plus tôt.

The 1931 film suggests that before giving life to his creature, Victor kept a heart alive for two years. The heart is a powerful symbol. One year after the death of Mary Shelley (1851), the Shelley opened her office. They found a notebook that she shared with Percy Shelley, and a copy of her Adonaïs poem, a page of which was wrapped in a silk cloth containing some of the ashes and remains of the heart of her husband Percy who had drowned 30 years earlier.
