Ham, un brave chimpanzé astronaute, a été envoyé dans l’espace par la Force aérienne des États-Unis en 1961. Sa mission était destinée à préparer le premier vol d’un astronaute humain. À son retour sur terre, alors qu’il se trouvait encore dans sa capsule, on lui tendit comme récompense une pomme qu’il saisit avec un large sourire. Ham vécut sa vie d’astronaute retraité au Parc zoologique national de Washington.

Ham, the brave Astrochimp, was sent into space by the United States Air Force in 1961. His mission was to prepare for the first flight of a human astronaut. Upon his return to earth, while still in his capsule, he was rewarded with an apple which he grabbed with a big smile. Ham lived his life as a retired astronaut at the Washington National Zoo.
